Jade Pennyman is an independent journalist and communications professional passionate about music, culture, and amplifying the voices that shape our communities. Her reporting spans print, digital, and multimedia platforms, with bylines in The Philadelphia Citizen, The Slate, Syracuse.com, and The Newshouse. She also runs her own Substack, where she explores the stories behind the sounds and the artists defining our time.

As a Social Media Intern at Syracuse.com and NYUpstate.com, she produced video-driven social content spotlighting marginalized communities, arts, and culture. Now serving as a Communications Fellow, she manages content strategy across all district platforms, crafting press releases, podcast scripts, and social media graphics, and producing short-form videos that connect families and students to their schools.

Her work is guided by curiosity  and a commitment to accuracy, accessibility, and representation. She believes journalism is strongest when it lifts overlooked voices and connects readers to the people and culture around them.
